I decided to join The Modern Pioneers program because I want to help my country in a different way.

In this generation we are living in two separate worlds: physically and digitally. People can know what is happening anywhere, at any time, and the only wall is a click. The problem is that not all of what they see is truthful, especially when we talk about the Israeli-Arab conflict. Therefore I joined the program, because there is no better source of information than ex-soldiers who served in the Israeli army.

I made aliyah from Bogotá, the capital city of Colombia. I came from a very special and small community that is strong and Zionist, filled with people that want to help others. In Bogotá you will find a Jewish school, synagogues, youth movement, a retirement home, etc.

When we spoke with Ella Waweya, Deputy IDF Spokesperson for Arab media, she emphasized that we should reach the people that are the furthest. Changing someone that already have a bad perspective about Israel is difficult. It’s better to explain and tell the truth to anyone who has not heard about Israel, or to those who only have heard bad things; those willing to listen and learn more about what is really happening. And our goal is to represent Israel the best we can.

The fact that we, as lone soldiers, have experienced both worlds, is amazing. Not because we speak different languages (I mean, anyone can learn a language), but because we lived two realities. We know how it is to be Israeli and what it is to be living outside of Israel. Most importantly: we know how to express ourselves within each culture we encounter. Every culture has a set way of speaking, and that is why it is important for lone soldiers to represent Israel, because we know the true Israel and can transmit it to the world.
