South African beauty queen resists pressure to boycott the Eilat beauty competition

This year’s beauty pageant ‘will take place in Eilat on December 12. Contestants are being pressured to skip the event. The South African beauty pageant has been under pressure from both BDS organizations, and the South African government as well to skip the event.

However, the local South African beauty pageant organizer insists that newly crowned Miss Lalea Miswane should compete arguing that the competition is not a politically inspired event. Consequently, the South African government has withdrawn its support for her candidacy at the competition due to their belief that Israel commits alleged atrocities against the Palestinians.

In other news the reigning Miss Universe said that the event shouldn’t be politicized. ‘When you are in there you forget about politics, about your religion,’ says Andrea Meza
of Mexico. Meza, 27, represents Mexico and was crowned in May, 2020. Having the beauty pageant is a big political win for Israel which aims to bring tourist and show Israel is coping well with the covid pandemic.

Since the beauty pageant has nothing to do with politics, their contestant should not be pressured to skip the event. In addition, Arab countries that have recently made peace with Israel will be attending as well. In my opinion what should be done to persuade countries like south Africa that don’t like Israel to demonstrate them that the events shouldn’t be politicized and have nothing to with the Israeli Palestinian conflict, and only through dialogue and conversations, not through boycotts there will be peace.
