I’m Samantha Steinwurz, former lone soldier from Brazil, now living in Jerusalem.
The community I grew up in Sao Paulo has lots of events for the young Jewish community and I was happy to volunteer in many organizations responsible for these events and for funding projects in Israel. Nevertheless, I had the feeling I could be doing more for our country, so in 2018 I decided to make Aliyah and serve the IDF as a fighter in the Search & Rescue unit.

I have a bachelor’s degree in Marketing and Communication and a post-graduate degree in Business Administration, both from Brazil, and now I am pursuing an Executive MA in Diplomacy and Security in Tel Aviv University.
After becoming Israeli, becoming a soldier, and going back to university, I can only say we should keep pushing ourselves for growth and fulfillment, even if it takes a lot of effort such as quitting a good and stable job and leaving behind friends and family to go live in another continent. Every decision we make now will count later, and the hard ones are the ones that will lead us to success.
